The Empire In Middlesbrough: Up Coming Events…….

CALVIN HARRIS (DJ  SET), WE ARE SCIENTISTS, MILES KANE, NEW MODEL ARMY, IMELDA MAY and THE NAKED & FAMOUS are all coming to a venue near you. Well if you live near The Empire in sunny Middlesbrough that is……

First up this Monday, the 13th of June are those wacky yanks; We Are Scientists. Promoting their great new album; Barbara. Now here at The Northern Line we’ve seen them a couple of times. Back in 2006 on the NME tour with Arctic Monkeys and Maximo Park. And, and, they held their own. What else will you be doing on Monday night? Get yourself down.

Then in August a DJ set from our favourite Doonhamer; Calvin Harris. We saw him last year at the Stockton Festival and despite his sounds not really being up our street he put on a great show. Expect some disc spinning and bank holiday shenanigans at the Empires SugarShack night on Sunday 28th of August.

Then a bit of a gap till October and then two gigs in two nights. Firstly, the legendary New Model Army on Wednesday the 12th of October followed the next night by the return of Miles Kane. New Model Army were famous in the 80s and I saw them many times at Tiffanys and the Mayfair in Newcastle. Loved the first two albums and then thought they’d gone. But they’ve been going on strong all this time and are well worth catching live. Then only 24 hours later and its Miles Kane. He played Middlesbrough Intro Festival last week and went down a storm. He is famous for being in the Little Flames, ok he’s not! He’s famous for being in The Rascals. Ok, he’s not! He’s famous for being the other one in the Last Shadow Puppets. He was the one that wasn’t Alex Turner! Now this is all a little unfair as he’s actually very good and will be known in his own right before long. Catch him on Thursday the 13th of October.

Then in November two artists we’ve not come across before. First up are The Naked & Famous. All the way from New Zealand and having recently discovered the Phoenix Foundation we reckon New Zealand is the new place to be from (apart from the North of Britain that is). Go see them. Then a couple of weeks later on Sunday the 27th of November Imelda May. A sort of 50s throw back (like Mark Lamarr but much better looking and with much better tunes!!!)
