You Me At Six: The Empire Middlesbrough Sunday 9th October 2011

As a regular visitor to The Empire in Middlesbrough and having attended a gig or two (one being You Me At Six at Leeds 02 Arena last year) I had a rough idea of what to expect. God was I wrong. The sea of people all cramming into the old theatre to see this award winning band was brilliant to see. It took my excitement to a whole new level.
The support bands, Lower Then Atlantis and Death Havana really set the standard for what I was about to experience. Never having seen either band live before, I was impressed. They got the crowd raring to go introducing mosh pits to their young audience.
The lights went out preparing for the moment You Me At Six graced The Empire’s stage. A roar of excitement flooded the hot sweaty space. The lights came back on. AT LAST, You Me At Six. I went wild with the rest of the crazed fans as the drums and bass kicked in. Then, there he was, Josh Franceschi took the stage, and most of the girl’s hearts. Wearing the usual skinny jeans and t- shirts the boys were dressed for business.
There wasn’t any need for him to use his voice as every single person in the place was singing the songs for him, that included the Loverboy from their new album Sinners Never Sleep and some of their older but amazing song’s from the album’s Hold Me Down and Take Off Your Colours including, Liquid Confidence, Stay With Me and more. The atmosphere and experience was spine tingling and You Me At Six were far from disappointing. Their choice for closing song left the crowd on a high as the chant of Underdog overflowed the room.
There’s a reason they won the title of Best British Band in the 2011 Kerrang! Awards and last night was it.

A big thank-you to Rebecca Yeoman for this review and to Ash at the Empire for his usual chivalry. Loads coming up at The Empire; New Model Army on Wednesday the 12th, Miles Kane the night after (October 13th), Puddle of Mudd follow on Wednesday the 19th and the month is rounded off with the brilliant Stiff Little Fingers on Tuesday the 25th.
